Export feature - Show or Hide?
Is or WILL it be possible to show or hide the Export feature either in
RS2000 SP2 or RS2005?
By this I mean when a user (forms auth.) logs on, dependant on his/her
permissions, they will have the ability to export reports or not by
disabling this feature.
Regards
ImmyNo... What you can do is add or delete items from the export list, but that
is for everyone... You can write your own interface which replaces this part
of Report manager, however.

Export fails under Forms Authentication
ASP.Net 2.0. The user enters a SQL logon and password, we authenticate that,
then use an embedded logon and password for all SQL calls. It works fine,
except when I try to export a report.
I have ReportViewer embedded on an aspx form, using local processing. The
report opens just fine, accepts parameter changes and renders correctly.
However, when I select an Export format and click Export, I get an "ASP.NET
session has expired" message with the following stack trace:
[AspNetSessionExpiredException: ASP.NET session has expired]
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportDataOperation..ctor() +335
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ExportOperation..ctor() +24
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler.GetHandler() +281
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext
context) +34
System.Web.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +154
System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean&
completedSynchronously) +64
I've been developing in VB and SQL for over 10 years, but I'm new to .Net
and Report Service. I've searched books and Web sites, and nothing I've
found mentions this problem or anything like it (which I'm sure means I'm
looking in the wrong place!).
Thanks.When I click on Export, I get a new IE instance, and the ASP session
identifier in the URL is different. If I replace it with the same string in
the IE instance that displays the reportViewer, the Export works just fine.
Now I need to figure out how to force the Export to open under the same ASP
session.

practice. I have to edit the ASP.NET configuration for the site to use
Cookies.
Under State Management, change the Cookieless mode selection to UseCookies.
This (as the documentation explains) causes the site to use Session cookies
to retain the security information, which successfully passes to the browser
window opened by the Export command on the ReportViewer control.
This appears to pass 508 Compliance muster for cookies, but Iâ'm still
checking on that.

Exponential Moving Avg.
EMA = (Today's Price)* K + (EMA yesterday) * (1-K)
where K = 2 / (N+1)
The user is going to Input the K.
It is something like
F(N) = Price * K + F(N-1) * (1-K)
How can I reference, the previously calculated value in the Next row
calculation. I need to implement this in SQL Server.
I created a Stored procedure to do this and I used a Temp tbale with
Identity.
Create Table #TempMovAvg
(MID int identity(1,1) Primary key, tempDate DateTime, tValue float)
I Populate the data for that temp table using the below query.
Insert Into #TempMovAvg (tempDate, tValue)
Select Date, Price From DataTable
I tried Diff options to calculate the exponential Moving Avg using the
above formula, but none of them are giving the correct answers. I am
not able to reference the Prev Calculated value in the Next row
calculation.
Some queries I used.
Select a.TempDate, a.tValue,0.9*A.tValue+0.1*
(Select 0.9*t1.tValue+0.1*t2.tValue From #TempMovAvg t1, #TempMovAvg
t2 Where t1.MID=A.MID and t2.MID=t1.MID-1)
FROM #TempMovAvg A
Where A.MID>=2
order by a.TempDate
SELECT A.MId,
SUM(CASE WHEN B.MID=A.MID THEN 0.9*B.tValue
ELSE 0.1*A.tValue END) exponential_average
FROM #TempMovAvg A, #TempMovAvg B
WHERE A.MID>=2 AND A.MID BETWEEN B.MID AND B.MID+1
GROUP BY A.MID
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Here is a version of the aggregate product function in SQL. You will
need to have the logorithm and exponential functions. They are not
standard, but they are very common.
The idea is that there are three special cases - all positive numbers,
one or more zeroes, and some negative numbers in the set.
You can find out what your situation is with a quick test on the
sign() of the minimum value in the set.
Within the case where you have negative numbers, there are two
sub-cases: (1) an even number of negatives or (2) an odd number of
negatives. You then need to apply some High School algebra to
determine the sign of the final result.
SELECT CASE MIN (SIGN(nbr))
WHEN 1 THEN EXP(SUM(LN(nbr))) -- all positive numbers
WHEN 0 THEN 0.00 -- some zeroes
WHEN -1 -- some negative numbers
THEN (EXP(SUM(LN(ABS(nbr))))
* (CASE WHEN
MOD (SUM(ABS(SIGN(nbr)-1)/ 2)), 2) = 1
THEN -1.00 ELSE 1.00 END)
ELSE NULL END AS big_pi
FROM NumberTable;
You will need to have the logarithm, exponential, mod and sign
functions in your SQL product. They are not standards, but they are
very common.

Itzak Ben-Gan had problems in implementing this in SQL Server that are
worth passing along in case your SQL product also has them. The query
as written returns a domain error in SQL Server, even though it should
not had the result expressions in the CASE expression been evaluated
<i>after<i> the conditional flow had performed a short circuit
evaluation. Examining the execution plan of the above query, it
looks like the optimizer evaluates all of the possible result
expressions in a step prior to handling the flow of the CASE
expression.
This means that in the expression after WHEN 1 ... the LN() function
is also invoked in an intermediate phase for zeros and negative
numbers, and in the expression after WHEN -1 ... the LN(ABS()) is
also invoked in an intermediate phase for 0's. This explains the
domain error.
To handle this, I had to use the ABS() and NULLIF() functions in the
positive numbers when CLAUSE, and the NULLIF() function in the
negative numbers when CLAUSE:
...
WHEN 1 THEN EXP(SUM(LN(ABS(NULLIF(result, 0.00)))))
and
...
WHEN -1
THEN EXP(SUM(LN(ABS(NULLIF(result, 0.00)))))
* CASE ...

The Perfmon counter shows the number of users connected to the system. Use
the sp_configure user connections option to specify the maximum number of
simultaneous user connections allowed on SQL Server.

multiple parents (see below). How do I answer such questions as "How
many roles does the user belongs to?"
I answered the above questions by using .NET but I think it can be
more efficient by using just SQL. I would appreciate if you can give

Expand/Collapse all in a report
Is there a built in option of adding an Expand/Collapse all Button to my report?
I have a report with few groups and I want to give the user a simple way to expand all of them for easy view or collapse all of them so he can see only the groups header.
I thought about using an expression in the hidden property of the groups and try to control it with parameters but its looks like a lot of work.
Is there something "of the self" for it?
Thank.
Roy.I thought about starting to build some button for this thing but I predict problem with it if I'll try to sort the table and the page will refresh it self every time.
Did any body tried this before?
Thanks|||
Allo Roy
I've done something similar:
I have a report with a BUNCH of measures, all hidden and you can display them
one by one and then it also displays a chart "dynamically" with a "button" corresponding to
the specific measure.
Add a new text box within the scope of the table, call it toggle...
then select the column and in the properties set the :
Visibility Toggle Item to the name of the textbox.
The textbox at runtime will then have a little plus that
will toggle the visibility.
The same is possible for rows and subtotals
although I haven't gotten a way to do it with Matrix's.
If i'm unclear or understand you wrong, please point it out
Peace

Expand All\Collapse All
so by default only one row shows up with a + - user clicks on it 2nd row
shows up like that 7 groups and then they can c the rows.
But is there anyway that i can use an option of Expand All in one click ?
like have a button next to the table and when the user clicks on it - all the
rows will be expanded without the user clicking so many times to c the final
result '
thanksRP,
Use a parameter.
In the Visibility tab of the groups properties, make the Visible
property and expression based around a parameter.
Search this newsgroup for more detail. It's a common request.

My problem is once, the user click the Expand all button, i want all the
levels in all the groups to be expanded.
ANyways i will try the parameter.
Thanks

If you set the property mentioned in the same way for each level, you
should get what you've asked for.
You could set them to toggle from a heading cell also with the toggle
item property.

Expand All Collapse All
function fine, and when the report is displayed the user can click on the +
signs to expand a group. I would like to add the option for the user to be
able to Expand All or Collapse all. Currently they have to click on every +
sign to Expand All. I have not found out how to do this in SSRS. Any help
with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

ChrisYou can have expand all by setting the toggle item to a level above the
parent group, or perhaps to the lable at the top of the tabel.

Execution plan of UDF
I have a table-valued user defined function (UDF) my_fnc.
The execution of statement "select * from my_fnc" takes much longer
time than runnig the code inside my_fnc (with necessary changes).
What can be the reason?
How can I see an execution plan used for UDF?
Thanks a lot

I don't know about the performance issue, but you can use Profiler to view
the execution plan.
